Aside from yeast infections just making me feel “ick,” I can’t say that they have ever affected my cycle. But I know everyone is different, so I can’t say it would be the same for me as it might be for you. This is a good question for our health expert, Michelle -- see what she has to say!
If you've never had one before, a yeast infection can be a bit tricky to spot. The common symptoms such as itching, discharge and irritation can also be caused by other things. So, if you think you might have a yeast infection, go see your healthcare provider for confirmation. The good news is yeast infections are easily treatable. As far as a missed period goes, I've never heard that as a symptom of yeast infections. There are many reasons you might miss a period. Simple things such as stress or exercising too much can cause a missed period and many girls are irregular during the first few years of menstruating. But if you've missed a few periods, be sure to see your healthcare provider.
The two can, in a round-about way, be related. Any stressor, emotional or physical (even a yeast infection) can alter your cycle. The question is, what caused the yeast infection? Hormonal changes, or taking antibiotics can cause a yeast infection and also mess up your cycle. In any case, if your period is early or late while you are also experiencing a yeast infection, I doubt there is any cause for worry. However, if you have truly gone two months without a period, you should take an over-the-counter pregnancy test and contact your healthcare provider to investigate further.
