Dr. Tomi-Ann Roberts

Helping women and girls feel good about their bodies.

Dr. Roberts received her BA in psychology from Smith College, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and her PhD in psychology from Stanford University.

She is an expert researcher, teacher and speaker in the area of the psychology of gender.  She is dedicated to exploring societal attitudes toward women and girls, as well as women's and girls' own self-evaluations and emotions concerning their bodies.

Dr. Roberts is currently the Winkler-Herman endowed Professor of Psychology at Colorado College. Her research interests center around the social psychology of women, gender, emotions and the body.

Dr. Roberts has been published in several journals including, Psychology of Women Quarterly, Sex Roles, Feminism and Psychology and the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.  She edited the book, Lanahan Selected Readings in The Psychology of Women, 2nd Edition and has contributed chapters to numerous edited volumes. Her co-authored book, The Sexualization of Girls and Girlhood: Causes, Consequences and Resistance, has just been published by Oxford University Press.

Dr. Roberts is currently co-chairing on the Society for the Psychology of Women's Task Force on Educating Through Feminist Research, and is a member of the board of directors of the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research.
