Just as you wouldn’t want to wear a bra that was too big or too small, you also want to find a pad that is right for you.
You've just attached a foreign object to the crotch of your underwear, so it may feel awkward at first. I know it did to me. From my experience, it's a good idea to try out different styles and levels of protection when shopping for a pad. Choosing a pad (or tampon for that matter) is most definitely a personal preference, but give it a chance. Like anything new, it may take some getting used to. Don't forget, placement is key. Too far back and you'll get the dreaded diaper feeling. Too far forward and you risk a leak. Check out the demo on our site (click “Play Demo”) for helpful instructions. And don't worry, you'll get better with practice at finding the perfect pad placement.
You shouldn't have to get used to it. I would try positioning the pad a little differently, and if it's still uncomfortable, you should try a different brand or a different style. Some girls just don't like pads at all, and that's okay. If you can't get comfortable with a pad, give tampons a try. You might find that you prefer them.
Do you remember the first time you wore a bra? You probably were totally aware that you were wearing it, and it may have felt a little strange and uncomfortable. After the first day, however, you probably forgot you were wearing it. The same is true for pads. During your first few periods, it may feel a little awkward to wear a pad, and you may find yourself noticing it a lot. This is normal, as long as you are not uncomfortable. If you do experience discomfort, it’s important to make sure you are using the right brand and size. Just as you wouldn’t want to wear a bra that was too big or too small, and may have preferences about fabric, style, and whether or not your bra has underwire, you also want to find a pad that is right for you. Try a couple of different brands and absorbencies, and don’t be afraid to use different pads to meet your changing needs throughout your cycle. Chances are that after a few cycles, wearing a pad will feel completely normal!
