Vaginal dryness is a frustrating problem for some women and is common after childbirth, after menopause (after not having periods anymore) and sometimes when you are taking allergy medicines. Regular lotions or creams can cause more problems if you use them in the vaginal area, but there are products you can buy that are specific for vaginal lubrication or moisturizing. If your problem is a new one and you are not sure what might be causing your dryness, it’s a good idea to see your healthcare provider to talk about it.
Dryness sure isn't comfortable, and it happens to a lot of women, especially as they get older. But other things such as medications can cause it, too. Still, I wouldn't recommend treating it -- inside or out -- with lotion or any other product until you've talked it over with your healthcare provider to determine what is causing it and how to make it less uncomfortable. Your vaginal health is important, so try not to be afraid to bring up any change that's happening to your body with your doctor. The more you talk about it, the more you learn and the healthier you'll be.
In my opinion, it really depends on the kind of lotion you plan on using. I have sensitive skin, so I stay away from anything with perfume, glitter (yes, I said glitter!), color, etc. I strongly suggest getting something made specifically your extra-sensitive, down-there bits. And if you’re really stumped or concerned ask your healthcare provider if there is anything he or she recommends. Hope this helps!!
